When it comes to my personal projects, why is it so hard to feel like I've done enough for the day? I could be working on something literally all day and I still wouldn't feel like I worked on it enough that day. It's a weird dilemma.

During recent times I've felt like I've barely had "enough" time to work on drawings or games. College and work do take a lot of time of course so I can't work on anything full time which is fine. I also try to meet up with friends often enough to not become isolated. I guess it's hard to really say for myself that "today I got good progress" on whatever I'm making yet I still absolutely don't wanna rush myself.

Now I don't have any schedules for my personal projects which I'm actually very very happy. Only "schedule" I have is that it would be good to post a drawing every month which I mostly always am able to do. Also what possibly causes this feeling is that I'm intentionally not showing certain stuff before they are in my eyes finished. It's to have a "wow" effect whenever I show it but thinking about it's not really worth it.

If you read this far then here is a little update on my new game I've been working on. I've gotten a bunch of sprites, mechanics, movement and what not done. I'll be showing a look at it once the first level has more textures in it to not look like just untextured objects mess.

I wish I knew how to make music because for my current project I'm going to be more picky in the type of music I want to it. Still would let the musician have pretty free hands on the actual music though.

I'll make a proper news post once I got actual stuff to show but I guess if you'd be up to let me know and I'll keep you in mind.

First time ever my art gets frontpaged*

iu_1362569_8460620.png

*And by art I mean regular digital art because I did have one Pixel Day submission in 2024 that got frontpaged.

It was this fanart of Antonblast's last level, Hell Manor, because I love that level and Antonblast is my favorite game ever.

iu_1362570_8460620.webp

Also random thing. If anyone makes Antonblast music remix and wants to use this drawing either here or on YouTube as a background image you can do that. Just let me know if you use it. For some reason I've always wanted my art to be in the background of a music remix.

Thanks to @GlitchBuddy and @FunnyPlush for putting it on the art frontpage suggestion thread.

Now other smaller updates/changes.

I'm going to scale back my drawings because god damn these take a while to draw.

Another reason is because I want to properly start and focus on that hoverboard game I've been prototyping. Currently figuring out characters and art style for it. Big things coming soon hopefully.

Today out of curiosity I searched up Painter Blazer game on Google (because Painter Blazer only gives pictures of jackets). I found out that there is unofficial reuploads of it currently on two different websites. The descriptions for the game on those sites are hilarious

Not too sure how safe these sites are so click the links at your own risk.

First we got KBH Games reupload and the description is:

Painter Blazer is a 2D action-platformer game about Blazer, a rabbit who loves to paint but struggles to find his dream job. When he finally gets hired, he discovers that the company plans to replace workers with high-tech robots. Believing that creativity still matters in a world full of machines, Blazer sets out to prove it. Players take on the role of Blazer, painting and dismantling robots while uncovering who’s behind these changes. The game combines action, arcade, and puzzle elements.

Then second we got Game-Game reuploada and the description made me burst out laughing:

Meet a bunny named Blazer in Painter Blazer. He is an artist working for a large comic book company. Everything was fine until management companies decided that artists were too expensive for them and decided to replace them with artificial intelligence. Blazer is in danger of losing his job, and therefore his comfortable life. He decided to fight for his place and wants to prove that the creations of a real artist cannot be replaced by any digital machine. Help the hero in Painter Blazer. He will hit the road, stopping only in front of blank canvases to create a painting.

There is also a couple playthroughs on YouTube which is pretty neat. So what do we learn from this? Idk unofficial uploads are funny I suppose.

Title says the two biggest gameplay additions.

Alright more progress and work has happened. To start of I most importantly learned about external codes, external layouts and global objects. All stuff that I should have used in Painter Blazer. Basically code and objects that are constantly loaded which are good for stuff like player sprites and movement and items since those are shared between every level. External layouts are great for UI. Also makes it 10 times faster to edit them.

Now new stuff in the prototype

  • 2D billboard sprites (had to find a work around since adding a 3rd person camera to one does not work)
  • Actual animations
  • Boost ramps
  • Rail grinding
  • Drifting (which I probably won't end up using)

A lot of what I learned and touched up are not visual but still very important stuff.

If someone can tell me what this level is you win an awesome prize (real) (except Neb because I told you what it is)

I'mma just try to use news posts more. I barely use them.

What I got done today is the blueprint for the item system, lap counting with checkpoints and a banana item (except it doesn't do anything yet). I have not done a button controlled menu yet but it wasn't too hard to get working for the item system. The boost and the trap are the only items I'll be doing during testing. Also a lot of adjustments to the movement to get an idea on how it will function in a possible finished game.

More footage:

I'll probably start to post these with a bit more stuff to show but I was just really happy that I got these 2 very important mechanics done.

Go karts are old and done a million times and they all are rather similar Mario Kart clones so I got rid of them as a whole. Hoverboards have a lot more freedom in movement and are generally just cooler. After I've gotten enough stuff tested I'm going to start a fresh file and remake pretty much everything with much more care put in to it.

So new stuff in testing.

  • Debug stuff to show the state of the boosts and player and coins and stuff.
  • More placeholder sprites to have "animations" and make it clear it's a hoverboarding game.
  • Sounds just for fun. Nicer to showcase.
  • Trick system. After jumping you can do one trick and that gives you a bit of a boost. A mechanic to have Mario Kart type of micro boosts but without having drifting in the game.
  • Coins for a Crazy Frog Racer type of item system to not have much random chances in the game aka item boxes.

Stuff to be tested in the future:

  • Crazy Frog Racer type of item system.
  • Lap counting.
  • Slopes, hills and other elevation.
  • Platforming.
  • Maybe grind rails?

Prototype footage.

For those who don't know how the item system works in Crazy Frog Racer (greatest racing game ever) here it is:

Get coins, use coins to buy items from a menu at any time.
